Meanwhile, Nicholas Pinnock took a fashion risk that didn't quite stick the landing, while Riki Lindhome showed how one unexpected detail can elevate an entire look.

Zendaya at the Spider-Man: A New Day red carpet event in Mexico City
REBECCA FRIEDMAN: Zendaya went full gothic glam in a black gown with sheer, intricately lace-paneled sleeves and bodice that looked like it was spun by a very fashionable spider (fitting, no?). A high mock-neck and dramatic fringe trailing down one side gave it equal parts Victorian mourning dress and rockstar edge, while a swept-up updo with wispy bangs kept the drama up top too. Moody, textured, and not a single boring inch. She could not have dressed more perfectly for a superhero premiere if she tried – dark, dramatic and web-worthy.
